The new Graduate Outcomes survey

In 2018, the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) will change to the new Graduate Outcomes Survey.

Between July 2015 and July 2017, HESA conducted a major review of the destinations and outcomes data, referred to as the NewDHLE review. Following this period of consultation, HESA proposed a new survey design and subsequently consulted with HE providers and 80% were in favour of the amendments.

As a result of the consultation a new process has been announced. The key features of the new survey are:

  • The model is one of open centralisation. This means that it will be administered centrally by a third party provider, with HE providers having near real-time access to responses.
  • Graduates will be surveyed by telephone or online approximately 15 months after completing their studies
  • There will be four survey periods a year. The first will be in December, followed by March, June and September.
  • The central administration will include account managers for HE providers, who will work with the provider to personalise the delivery of the survey to their graduates
  • It will aim to exceed the current response rate of 70%
  • It will be linked with other study and salary data to build up a broader picture of graduate outcomes.

All University of Southampton students graduating from 1 August 2017 onwards will be asked to complete the Graduate Outcomes survey.

The Careers and Employability Service, in partnership with the Office of Development and Alumni Relations, and Communications and Marketing, has been developing a community for life engagement strategy which supports the early communication with graduates.

The Careers and Employability Service will also be delivering workshops providing an overview of the Graduate Outcomes survey in the New Year.
