Before you head off on your Christmas break, please remember to switch off non-essential equipment in offices, labs and halls of residences.
Think about computers, monitors, chargers, printers, lights and any other equipment that could be turned off while you are away. Please also ensure that windows are closed.
While the majority of us will be at home enjoying a well-earned break, the University’s buildings will still be consuming electricity over the festive period. Some of this is essential, but keeping this as low as possible can have a big collective impact.
In 2016, we achieved our best reduction to date over the Christmas shutdown, saving £33,000 worth of electricity, or 300,000kWh, enough to boil water for 15 million cups of tea.
