Philosophy hosts Chinese Society of Epistemology visit

The Philosophy department has hosted a workshop involving members of the Chinese Society of Epistemology. The delegation included philosophers from the universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong, Xiamen and Zhejiang Normal.

The workshop was led by Professor Jiaming Chen, President of the Society and Director of the Centre for Epistemology and Cognitive Sciences (Xiamen). It provided an opportunity for sharing research and included a number of presentations by both talks visitors and hosts on a range of topics.

The event was a great success and will no doubt have helped to raise further the international reputation of Philosophy at Southampton, as well as that of the wider University.

The workshop marked the beginning of a planned long-term research partnership between Xiamen and Southampton which will build on our shared expertise in epistemology (the theory of knowledge).

In addition, the workshop was an opportunity to promote the collaborative educational programmes that the Faculty of Humanities at Southampton offer in partnership with the College of Humanities at Xiamen, and to explore opportunities for collaboration with other partners in China.
