There’s still time for doctoral researchers to enter this year’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) 2018 competition, but hurry! Entry closes on Friday 26 January.
Last year’s Three Minute Thesis Grand Finalists
Jo James, Professional Development Manager at the Doctoral College, said:
“Taking part in 3MT is a great opportunity for our researchers to hone their communication skills, as it encourages them to think about 1) the importance of their research (why they are doing it and for whom/what) and 2) how to communicate those things effectively and engagingly to a general audience. Even if their three minute presentation does not win them the competition, they will be able to use it in all sorts of other contexts.”
In just three minutes, competitors must use one PowerPoint slide with no additional props or electronic media, to explain their research to a non-expert audience.
Organised at Southampton by the Doctoral College as a part of a wider global initiative, postgraduate researchers are first entered into a Faculty heat, with the eight winners of these heats then going on to compete in the University Grand Final in May this year.
