The Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network will be marking the launch of LGBT History Month with an open breakfast at Avenue Campus on Thursday 1 February from 08:30 – 10:00. Open to anyone, you’re free to bring your own breakfast or purchase something from the Avenue café, and take a look at some of the LGBT literature and life-stories available in the space.
LGBT History Month celebrates equality and diversity by increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people: their history, lives and experiences. The University will also be flying the rainbow flag on Highfield Campus, and programmes of events and activities have been planned to highlight the rich history of LGBT+ contributions to our society.
In addition to the breakfast, rainbow lanyards are available for staff to pick up from various places across the University campuses. You can pick one up from your local campus rep, details of which can be found on the new Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network website.
The Students’ Union LGBT Society will also be holding various events to celebrate the month, including running a rainbow handprints table on the concourse of Building 42 on 7 February from 10:00. Details of the society’s events can be found here.
James Allen, Chair of the Pulse Network said:
“Wearing a rainbow lanyard during LGBT History Month and throughout the year is an easy way to show your support for people around you, no matter their gender or sexual identity. It helps show that the University is a safe space, where we are inclusive and celebrate diversity.”
Keep your eyes on SUSSED and the Diversity calendar for more information on events as they become available. We look forward to coming together as a University community to show our support.
