Reducing plastic catering waste on campus

Before Christmas, the BBC series Blue Planet II highlighted how plastic is affecting the world’s oceans and marine life.

New plastics used on campus will be made from plant-based materials

At the University, we’re continually looking for ways to improve sustainability on our campuses, and this includes reducing unnecessary plastic waste.

This year, you’ll start to see fewer plastic products in the catering outlets on our campuses, including cutlery, cups and polystyrene takeaway cartons. Instead, we have introduced products made from plant-based materials.

You can play your part by bringing a re-usable cup into our cafes. Remember, you’ll get a double stamp on your reward card when you buy a drink and bring your own cup.
