The Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network invites staff to wear a rainbow lanyard to visibly celebrate and promote our University’s inclusive culture.
Lanyards are available for staff to collect from various areas across our campuses – get in touch with your local lanyard contact through the Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network website to find the location most convenience for you.
February is LGBT History Month, where we celebrate equality and diversity by increasing the visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and other identities that differ from a heterosexual cis gender (someone whose gender identity is the same as the sex they were assigned at birth) majority.
We recognise that, when anyone can be themselves, individuals have an increased sense of wellbeing and perform better. Our University community aims to embed a culture which is inclusive, readily providing opportunities for us to show support for one another and which ultimately maintains a safe and friendly environment in which we can all work.
We encourage you to wear a rainbow lanyard to celebrate the inclusivity of our joint staff and student community here at the University.
Our President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden commented:
“By being a supporter of the LGBT+ community, you can contribute towards a positive working environment, where collegiality is visible and helps show the University is a place where we celebrate diversity and inclusion.”
James Allen, Pulse LGBT+ Staff Network Chair added:
“Wearing a rainbow lanyard is an easy way to show your support for people around you, whatever their gender or sexual identity. It helps show that the University is a safe space, where we encourage each other to be genuine.”
Keep your eyes on SUSSED and the Diversity calendar for more information about events and activities that you can get involved in.
