SUFST, the University’s Formula Student team, is delighted to announce that for the second consecutive year, it has been successful in receiving a £3,000 financial award from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).
Formula Student UK, run by the IMechE, is a competition for university undergraduates to design, build and test a single seat race car.

Following on from last year’s successful result of finishing 25th at the UK competition, SUFST aim to finish in the top 15 at the Silverstone event this year. The team also qualified 8th fastest into the most competitive event in the calendar last year, Formula Student East, in Hungary.
Nathan Vosper, Team Leader, said:
“We are really proud to win the IMechE award for the second continuous year. We see the award as an endorsement from the IMechE, and it gives me faith that professionals see value in Formula Student.
“Our application this year revolves around inspiring the next generation of engineers. The government have hailed 2018 as the Year of Engineering and as a team, we understand that we have a part to play in inspiring young talent to embark on their own STEM journey.”
The team has recently launched the Computer Aided Design concept for this year’s competition car, STAGV.
The team is also currently crowd funding. If you’d like to donate, you can do so here.
If you’re interested in joining the team, please email Nathan at: [email protected] – the team is open to all enthusiastic undergraduate students at the University.
