Following Council approval of the new Faculty structure on 14 March 2018, the first of a number of roles are being appointed in order to deliver the new Faculty structure by 1 August 2018.
President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden is now seeking expressions of interest, from within our academic community, including from our existing Associate Deans, for the following roles.
For the Faculties of Arts & Humanities, Environmental & Life Sciences and Social Sciences:
For the Faculty of Engineering & Physical Sciences:
- Associate Dean Education
- Associate Dean Research
- Associate Dean Enterprise
- Associate Dean International
- Associate Dean Academic Infrastructure
The size of the Associate Dean roles will vary depending on the research, education and international focus of the Faculty and will vary between 0.5 full time equivalent (fte) and 0.8fte.
The academic management structure of the Faculty of Medicine will remain unchanged for the time being, and will be reviewed once the new Dean has taken up post.
These Associate Dean roles support the respective Vice-Presidents in the development of the University Strategy and lead the implementation of these strategies within each Faculty, on behalf of the Dean.
As an applicant for an Associate Dean role, you will have sufficient management and leadership experience to be able to contribute effectively as a member of Faculty Boards, at Level 6 or 7. You will need to have strong knowledge of the University Strategy and be ambitious to support continued delivery of the 10-Year Plan over the coming years, focusing on the principles of collegiality, quality, internationalisation and sustainability.
As the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Champion for the University, Sir Christopher would particularly like to encourage women, Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) and disabled academics to consider applying for these roles. We value diversity and inclusion at Southampton and aspire to have a broadly representative senior management team in all our faculties.
If you are interested in being considered for these roles, please submit a one-side page of A4 clearly stating which role you are interested in and setting out your vision for the role and how this would support the delivery of the University Strategy. Please send this, along with a current CV, to Angela Harrison by 17:00 Thursday 29 March 2018.
Interviews will take place after Easter.
Please use the links above to the Role Descriptors for each Associate Dean role. These have been updated to reflect the wider university role and engagement with the Vice-Presidents.
You are welcome to discuss your interest with the Dean of the new Faculty prior to submitting your expression of interest.
Please note that this appointment is covered by the Statutes and Ordinances of the University.
