Professor Anne Curry reappointed Trustee to the Board of the Royal Armouries

Professor Anne Curry, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Professor of Medieval History, has been reappointed as a Trustee of the Royal Armouries for two further years, extending her term of office which began in 2014.

The Royal Armouries is the national collection of arms and armour and is housed in the Tower of London, as well as in Fort Nelson, near Portsmouth and the Armouries Museum in Leeds.

The Trustees are responsible for the governance and strategic development of the Armouries, and are chaired by General the Lord Dannatt, with membership drawn from various areas of expertise.

Inviting Professor Curry to continue as a Trustee, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Rt Hon Matt Hancock, said:

“As the only trustee in the tertiary education sector, your contribution in the area of historical expertise and research has been invaluable.”

Professor Curry said:

I’m delighted to be reappointed as a Trustee. I am passionate about increasing public awareness, and I am keen to share the Royal Armouries’ active commitment to research, education and outreach.”

These are exciting times for the Armouries as a new masterplan for the Leeds site is being devised. For the commemoration of the end of the First World War in 2018, the Trustees are involved in special events at Fort Nelson, and at Central Hall Westminster with performances for charity of Sir Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, a work which the Royal Armouries originally commissioned for the start of the new millennium.

Professor Curry chaired the Agincourt 600 Trustees and is now involved in the refurbishment plans for the museum at the battlefield. She was President of the Historical Association (2008-11), and is now an Associate Vice President with responsibility for Higher Education.  She is on the Court of the Worshipful Company of Fletchers and the committee of the British Commission for Military History and is a Trustee of the Battlefield Trust.
