Graduate team reach Student Start-up of the Year final

A team of our graduates has reached the finals of the Enterprise Nation – Student Startup of the Year competition, forming a final shortlist of five businesses from over 200 applications.

Recent graduates Umang Rajdev and Dr. Utsav Oza, from Kenya and India respectively, have developed a technology based platform which connects remote communities in need of education resources to free online education using cheap, portable technology.

The final requires people to vote for their project of choice, with voting closing at 17:00 on 27 March 2018.

The project, named ‘Wazi’, aims to improve education access by using an Internet of Things network and physical transport of data to provide existing online education content to remote communities around the world.

The remote communities are then provided with Wazi kits, handheld portable devices which are used to access the content through a Wazi hub device. The hub can be updated at regular intervals, using physical transport of data from a nearby town that has internet access.

Umang Rajdev said:

“Wazi provides a truly automated bi-directional connectivity platform to remote communities around the world, connecting them to us, and us to them. Wazi’s goal is to educate, empower and enable the leaders of tomorrow by helping teachers to teach and learners to learn.”

Wazi is planning to develop technology demonstrators and begin pilot projects with local schools and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) in Kenya and India by mid-2018.
