The University is once again supporting the Primary Engineer Leaders Award and more entries are expected in 2018: the Year of Engineering. As part of the Award scheme, local school pupils are invited to interview an engineer, look for a problem and draw a solution to it.
The pupils then submit annotated drawings and accompanying letters explaining why their design should be built. On 8 May staff and postgraduate researchers from the Faculty of Engineering and Environment are invited to assist with the grading of entries.
Susan Scurlock, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Primary Engineer Leaders Award said:
“The ideas and thoughts of children between the ages of four to 18 are inspirational, thoughtful, insightful and frequently hilarious, and it is hoped the engineering community will help with the grading.
“It is so important that young people have the opportunity to engage with the engineering community to inspire the next generation.”
The University is the partner organisation of the Primary Engineer and Secondary Engineer Leaders Awards taking place in the South of England. It is a fantastic opportunity for the University to encourage participation in Engineering subjects.
In June an awards ceremony will be held at the University where winners will be announced. There will also be a public exhibition on 15 June 2018 where various entries will be showcased.
The Leaders Award competition is run up and down the country with thousands of entries being received at Primary Engineer’s headquarters in Burnley.
