In November 2017, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden outlined plans to re-shape the University and move to a five-faculty structure. A number of activities are now underway to ensure that the new Faculty structure is in place by 1 August 2018. Work to align our Professional Services to the new Faculty structure will continue through 2018 and 2019.
We will be posting regular updates on SUSSED, and a copy of this information will also be sent to senior managers, our Unions, and our colleagues at SUSU so that they can facilitate sharing within their own departments and networks.
Faculty leadership teams
In our last update, we informed you that Faculty Executive Groups will be known as Faculty Boards from 1 August 2018. A priority between now and August is to align a number of key roles to the new Faculty structure, including: Associate Deans, Heads of Schools, Heads of Faculty Finance, Faculty Managers, HR Business Partners and Faculty Academic Registrars.
Heads of Faculty Finance
The Finance, Planning and Analytics directorate has been considering the changes needed to ensure Faculty Finance Teams are appropriately aligned to the new structure. The first step has been to confirm Heads of Faculty Finance.
Alongside the alignment of Faculty Finance Teams, a key consideration has been how best to support the financial aspects of the University’s Research and Enterprise strategies. As a result, the role of Head of Faculty Research and Enterprise Finance has been created and will work across all five new Faculties.
The new Heads of Faculty Finance and Head of Faculty Research and Enterprise Finance are:
- Head of Faculty Finance for Arts and Humanities – Lorna Leverett
- Head of Faculty Finance for Environmental and Life Sciences – Karen McKinstry
- Head of Faculty Finance for Engineering and Physical Sciences – Simon Mason
- Head of Faculty Finance for Medicine – Clare Taylor
- Head of Faculty Finance for Social Sciences – Chris Tollerfield
- Head of Faculty Research and Enterprise Finance – Ellie Draper
You can view the Head of Faculty Finance organisational chart here.
Associate Deans
Associate Dean interviews have been scheduled between 27 April and 5 June.
Heads of Schools
In our last update, we reported that Council had approved the new School structures; good progress has been made with the new Head of School posts.
You can view organisational charts showing the new Schools and Departments here.
Two new roles (Head of School of Engineering and Head of School of Humanities) are being recruited to internally, and expressions of interest have been invited from staff from the current Faculty of Engineering and the Environment and the Faculty of Humanities.
In all other cases, where Academic Units are becoming Schools, existing Heads of Academic Units have been invited to take up the relevant Head of School roles. All current post-holders have been written to individually.
It is proposed that Professor Mandy Fader, current Dean of Health Sciences and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Internal Partnerships), will become Head of School of Health Sciences, subject to Council approval on 9 May.
Heads of Departments
Where departments are unchanged in the new structures, existing Heads of Departments have been invited to take up the new roles. In the areas where Academic Units are becoming Departments, existing Heads of Academic Units have been invited to take up the relevant Head of Department role. All current post-holders have been written to individually.
Once all roles have been confirmed, we will publish a full list.
