Following a series of urgent conversations with our bank, payments of our staff salaries are being made via a same-day payment system (CHAPS). While many colleagues will receive the payment into their accounts by close today, unfortunately we understand that the remainder will be made tomorrow and possibly a small number on Wednesday.
We took the decision to ensure that payments were prioritised from the lowest to highest salary, as it proved to be impossible to effect a full run even with the bank’s emergency procedures.
The University will reimburse colleagues for any expenses e.g. bank charges/penalties incurred as a direct result of any late salary payment. We will provide clear guidance on the process for submitting these claims to the University.
Ian Dunn, Chief Operating Officer, has emailed staff this afternoon:
“I deeply regret that this situation has occurred and apologise wholeheartedly for the concern this will be causing many of you today. This has been a very complex situation and for this reason I have been unable to provide you with clarity earlier in the day.
We have already begun an urgent investigation to understand why this happened and what can be done to ensure this will never happen again.”

A further update will be provided via SUSSED and all staff email tomorrow.
