Southampton is one of only five UK universities included in the Siemens Global University Challenge: Automation meets Edge.

This is a prestigious student competition for groups of students to develop innovative ideas and app prototypes which use the potential of Edge computing to solve industrial challenges.

Prizes include: €1,000 per team, goodie bags, gadgets, and funding for participation, travel and accommodation for a Hackathon in October in Germany.

The closing date for the Siemens Global University Challenge: Automation meets Edge is 5 June 2018, and you can find more information here.

Additionally, the TAPAS Innovation Challenge is open to staff and students to share ideas for ‘Software Defined Inverters’ with Siemens – an inverter being a gadget that converts one source of power into another. Those taking part could have the chance to pitch their idea at a July Conference in Nuremberg, win equipment as well as €5,000.

The closing date for the TAPAS Innovation Challenge is 13 June 2018, and you can find more information here.

If you enter these competitions, you must read and understand the terms and conditions, particularly regarding Intellectual Property and liabilities. If you need more information, please email Nikki Matthews in Research and Innovation Services.
