Recipients of Athletic Union Colours to receive graduation recognition

Students who have been awarded Athletic Union (AU) colours by the Students’ Union for a high level of sporting success or dedication to a club will now have their award announced during their graduation ceremony and included within the ceremony programme.

The Students’ Union and our University have recently confirmed completion of a joint initiative designed to recognise the numerous achievements of our dedicated Team Southampton athletes and the amount of hours they put into sports clubs alongside their studies.

The project was conceived by the Students’ Union Vice-President Sports, Steve Gore, and Our Vice Chancellor, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden, at the start of this academic year.

Steve commented:

“I’m thrilled to see the University’s graduation department commit to recognising the hard work our student volunteers put into participating in and running the more than 90 affiliated sports clubs of the Union.

“Many students will look back on their time at university and be equally proud of their sporting achievements as they are of their degree, and this is an excellent way to congratulate them.”

The announcement of AU colours during graduation ceremonies will begin during this summer’s graduation and continue on into all future ceremonies.

Over the next week, the Union will be in contact with recipients to discuss their awards. Permissions will be sought by Wednesday 30 May. Anyone who would like to know more can contact Steve by emailing: [email protected].
