The University is hosting the ‘XVI Symposium of Mexican Students and Studies in the UK’ on Highfield Campus from Wednesday 11- Friday 13 July.
The event, the first of its kind at Southampton, has been organised by student members of the Society of Mexican Students in the UK, MexSoc. Registration is free.
The Symposium is aimed at researchers, students, research centres and companies interested in scientific and technological development with a multidisciplinary scope.
Participants are invited to present their innovative research and generate networks promoting international collaboration between academics and institutions.
Students and staff can also take part in talks, parallel sessions and poster competitions, and join in discussion panels and multidisciplinary networking events.
Keynote speakers include:
- H E Julian Ventura, Mexico’s ambassador for the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland; María Dolores Sánchez, a Sociologist with an MSc in Applied Social Science from the Autonomous University of Baja California;
- Yves Hayaux du Tilly, Chairman of the Mexican Chamber of Commerce in Great Britain;
- Professor Sir David Payne, Director of the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University.
Social events during the Symposium include a Football Night, a Gala Dinner at St. Mary’s Stadium and a Mexican Party.
