Chief Information Officer to step down

Professor Simon Cox is to step down from his dual role as Chief Information Officer (CIO) to concentrate solely on his academic career as Professor of Computational Methods in the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

Professor Simon Cox, Chief Information Officer, said:

“Under my leadership as CIO, the University now has its first ever digital strategy and a compelling masterplan for transforming the University’s technology as part of our Ten Year Plan. With that in place, I feel this is now the right moment for me to hand over to a new CIO focused on implementing the digital strategy. I will be returning full-time to my academic career.”

Ian Dunn, Chief Operating Officer, added:

“I, along with all the University Executive Board, am hugely grateful to Simon for his leadership, commitment, and wise counsel as our first CIO and for his insightful leadership of iSolutions and the strategic digital journey. Simon has a superb academic career ahead of him at Southampton and I am thankful for his offer of on-going support as we progress our digital transformation plans”.

Simon will be transitioning back to the faculty over the summer months. In the meantime, the University will be considering its future plans for this role.
