Following our Estate Framework exhibition in June, site investigations have started into the ground conditions around campus which will inform our future planning decisions.
The exhibition outlined the University’s programme of investment across its campuses to ensure it delivers a fit-for-purpose estate.
The investigations started in Hampton car park which was closed for one week in June. Half of Broadlands car park will now be out of use from Monday 30 July for 8 weeks to make way for the investigations and unrelated, non-University work by the Wireless Infrastructure Group (WIG) to erect a telecoms mast.
The works taking place over the summer will involve digging trial pits or erecting equipment to take samples. Estates are doing all they can to co-ordinate these works with other events on campus such as Open Days and Graduation and are informing nearby buildings who may be affected.
The broad areas of work should be:
- West side of University Road up to the Shackleton building and Building 6 – August
- West side of Campus by the Maths building and Turner Sims – late August to early September
- East side of University Road near the Faraday building and Building 23 – early to mid-September
- University Road houses and Jubilee Sports Centre car park – mid-September
