In November 2017, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden outlined plans to re-shape the University and move to a five-faculty structure from Wednesday 1 August 2018.
This is our final fortnightly update before the launch of our new faculties this Wednesday. We will be updating you on the next phase of this work after the summer.
A copy of this information is being sent to senior managers, our Unions and our colleagues at the Students’ Union so that they can facilitate sharing within their own departments and networks.
Faculty Directors of Graduate Schools
Directors of Graduate Schools in our five new faculties have now been appointed. You can find a list here. The individuals will take up their roles for a period of three years from 1 August.
In Medicine, where the faculty composition will not change, the existing post-holder will continue for a further three-year term.
Deputy Heads of Schools
In June, we told you about the plan to increase consistency in our academic schools by appointing Deputy Heads for Education and Research & Enterprise. These roles will support the delivery of the respective strategy in their schools.
The vast majority of Deputy Heads of Schools have now been appointed. Deputy Heads in Medicine will be appointed in the autumn, after Professor Diana Eccles has taken up post as Dean.
Associate Directors of Faculty Operations
Last week we announced the appointment of staff for these key roles (previously referred to as Faculty Managers). You can find the full list here.
Updated organisational charts
We have updated our faculty organisational charts to include these new appointments. They can be found here.
Staff contact details
The launch of our new faculties is a good opportunity for you to check that your location and contact details are up-to-date on Subscribe so that colleagues can easily get in touch. You can log in and make changes here.
Faculty Finance Teams
Since our update in April, work has been progressing within Finance, Planning and Analytics to align faculty finance staff to the new structure. It has been agreed that a phased approach will be taken:
Phase 1 – Faculty finance staff aligned to the new structure based, primarily, on maintaining consistency with the colleagues they currently support. Organisation charts to show the teams, with effect from 1 August 2018, can be found here.
Phase 2 – realignment of some staff into the Research Hub – with a target implementation date of 1 January 2019 – to be confirmed following the design of the hub.
Faculty finance teams will be working and communicating with academic colleagues to ensure a smooth transition of roles and responsibilities after 1 August.
Health, Safety and Risk interim arrangements
Health, Safety and Risk have published interim arrangements for how they will support our new faculties after 1 August. You can view a chart here.
Longer-term arrangements are currently being considered and will be shared in the new academic year.
