We’re among the first to achieve OfS registration

Our University is among the first higher education providers in the UK to be officially registered and regulated by the Office for Students (OfS).

To register with the OfS, providers have to demonstrate that they meet challenging requirements relating to teaching quality, student protection, student support, financial sustainability, sound governance and management, and more.

Registered providers must continue to meet these requirements, otherwise the OfS will intervene to protect students’ interests, which could result in sanctions such as fines or deregistration.

Because of this, students can be confident in the knowledge that, if their university or college is registered, it is meeting these thresholds and is subject to OfS regulatory scrutiny. It also means that students at registered providers can take out government-backed tuition fee loans while those at unregistered English providers cannot.

Professor Alex Neill, Vice-President (Education) said:

“We’re very pleased to be amongst the first universities to be officially registered by the OfS. The registration process means that students can be confident that Southampton meets some very challenging and demanding quality thresholds and is ready and able to provide effective support to our students.”
