Student Life: Supporting students through exams

We all know exams and deadlines can be stressful for our students which means it’s even more important that they seek the support, advice and guidance they may need during this time. Alongside this, it is also important that our support staff are accessible and on hand to help students.

Student Life, our 24/7 support team based within Student Services, teamed up with the Library to run their Summer Exam Support Pilot to great success. During the exam period Student Life Advisors, who are usually based in Halls, were located within Hartley Library where they provided wellbeing support for students revising into the night. The team had over 15,000 interactions with students during the pilot from 1 May to 8 June.

Support ranged from a cup of tea and words of encouragement to providing more specialist mental health support and liaising with other internal and external services.

Feedback from the pilot stated how 95% of students felt the support was either “extremely helpful” or “very helpful”. This initiative demonstrates the University’s on-going commitment to supporting students’ wellbeing and Student Life will be continuing to develop this further in the new academic year.
