Enabling Services Transition Days 2018

On Saturday 18 August, Enabling Services will be hosting the first of five Transition Days for students enrolling for the 2018-19 academic year.

Transition Days provide students who have disclosed a disability with a unique opportunity to find out more about the wide range of specialist support available. They also have the chance to discuss their personal needs, and take a tour of Highfield Campus.

One of the key strengths of these annual events is that they allow for any required support to be identified and put in place, before a student has even begun their studies with us. Each year, almost 200 students with a range of disabilities (including mental health conditions and specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia), benefit from these events. Our Transition Days were even featured as part of the Guardian’s How to tell which universities are taking student mental health seriously guide.

This year, the format of the day has been updated to incorporate a visit to our Wellbeing Centre and the Assistive Technology Suite in the Hartley Library, which have both been refurbished to include the latest facilities and technologies as part of our commitment to student support.

For many students who feel anxious about University life and how they’ll manage the changes alongside their disability, Transition Days can be a real lifeline. The opportunity to meet other students and get to know the campus and its facilities in a calm environment are another strength of this event.
