Time After Time, the new exhibition curated by Emeritus Professor Stephen Foster at John Hansard Gallery (JHG), seeks to connect the Gallery’s previous campus location and its new city centre venue with a re-examination of some key site-specific installations displayed at JHG between 1992 and 2016.
As the Gallery’s Director from 1987 to 2017, Stephen Foster’s exhibition reflects on JHG‘s history and programme over the past thirty years. It includes works by artists Caroline Bergvall, Victor Burgin, Hamad Butt, John Latham, Charlotte Posenenske, alongside a new commission by Walter van Rijn. Through returning to past works, the exhibition explores the impact of re-imagining an original, temporary installation and the significance of its location.
John Hansard Gallery was located on the University’s Highfield Campus for nearly four decades since its opening in 1980. After 39 years at Highfield, John Hansard Gallery relocated to its new purpose-built city centre space in Southampton’s Guildhall Square in 2018.
