Southampton researcher awarded €1.5 million from European Research Council

Dr Massimiliano Guasoni, current Marie-Curie fellow at the Optoelectronics Research Centre, has been awarded a €1.5 million Starting Grant from the European Research Council (ERC) for his project ‘Multimode Light Shaping: From optical fibers to nanodevices’.

ERC Starting Grants are designed to support outstanding researchers of any nationality, working in any European host-institution. The grants are extremely competitive and are amongst the most prestigious and sought-after European grants.

The project explores new ways to manipulate light to generate novel disruptive technology, spanning from devices for ultrafast internet, up to efficient eco-friendly light sources.

Dr. Guasoni commented:

I am of course very excited to have been awarded the ERC Starting Grant. This grant gives me the opportunity to build my own research group and provides me all the resources to deal with the challenging research topics I will address over the next few years. I would like to recognise the impressive support of the EU Office, as well as of several colleagues at the ORC who have helped me immensely.

Dr. Guasoni is currently recruiting PhD students and post-doc researchers for his ERC project. For further information you can contact him at: [email protected]
