Welcoming our new students

As we ready ourselves to welcome over 4,000 new students this weekend, we wanted to give you – our staff community – information that will help you play your part in helping our Freshers’ settle in.

Getting around
As you know, we have large and sprawling campuses and it can sometimes be hard to find your way around! If you see any students who look lost, please do stop and help them to get back on track.

You could also recommend that they download the MySouthampton app which, alongside its email and course timetable features, also has an inbuilt campus map function.

Student offices
Student offices are a big part of student life, as our colleagues who work within them support students with academic queries. Some may have moved or updated their contact details over the summer so it’s worth reminding students of this key information.

Welcome events
The University and the Students’ Union run a wide range of events that are open to new and returning students. It’s good for staff to be aware of these events, so they can let students know about them.

Student communications channels
Did you know that we have dedicated channels for our students, run by our Student Communications Team? These channels highlight a range of news, events and opportunities for students, as well as acting as a central voice, representing a number of services across the University. You can find out more about the channels here.

Get to know the new Students’ Union Sabbatical Officers
Each year, a team of students is elected to lead our Students’ Union, setting the agenda for the activities that the Students’ Union does over the next academic year. Meet the team.
