SUSSED News

Welcome to Southampton!

A very warm welcome to all our Freshers. You’ve made it, you’re finally here and it’s time to start your university journey.

This will be a time of great change for you all as you get used to your new surroundings, lectures, peers and responsibilities. But don’t worry, because everything will fall into place in the coming days and weeks and, before you know it, you’ll have completed your first term with us.

We’ve put together some advice to help you navigate your way through this transitional period.

Here’s some tips to help you settle in:

  • Attend Welcome events
The University and the Students’ Union run a wide range of events that are open to new and returning students. Apart from the number of freebies available, it’s also a great opportunity to find out more about uni life! You’ll notice that there is a wide variety of events you could take part in so make sure you tailor your welcome experience to suit you.

  • Getting around
We have large and sprawling campuses and it can sometimes be hard to find your way around! Download the MySouthampton app which, alongside its email and course timetable features, also has an inbuilt campus map function. You can also view campus maps here.
  • Get your student ID card
Did you miss getting your student ID card over Welcome Weekend? Don’t worry, you can collect it from your Student Office instead. Visit our website for a list of collection locations.
  • Meet the new Students’ Union Sabbatical Officers
Each year, a team of students is elected to lead your Students’ Union, setting the agenda for the activities that the Students’ Union does over the next academic year. Meet the team.
  • Let us know if you need support
From the 24 hours Student Life Team based in all Halls of Residence, to the Enabling Services and Students’ Union Advice Centre, there is always support for you when you need it. Find out more.
  • Student communications channels
Did you know that we have dedicated student communications channels run by our Student Communications Team? These channels highlight a range of news, events and opportunities just for you. You can find out more about the channels here.

P.S. We also have a Freshers’ Snapchat geofilter available across Highfield from now until Friday 28 September at 18:00 so make sure to frame your Freshers’ moments!
