Work from anywhere using the Southampton Virtual Environment

If you are trying to revise from home or are struggling to find a work station on campus, log on to the Southampton Virtual Environment (SVE) using your own computer or tablet.

The SVE gives you access to your university Windows desktop from any device in any location whether that’s at home, on campus or even on the bus. It’s quick and easy to set up and will give you access to all of your files, a full Microsoft Office Suite and your top 40 most used applications (license agreements permitting).

There are two ways to open your SVE desktop; the VMWare Horizon Client, which offers full functionality and best performance, or the HTML5 Client version which is best for convenience.

  1. Download and install the VMWARE Horizon Client on your device. Click here and go to VMware Horizon Clients at the bottom of the page. Download the Horizon Client for your device (Mac, Linux, iOS, Windows or Android).
  2. Or for the HTML5 Client version, go to www.sve.soton.ac.uk and log in using your University username and password.

So you no longer need to wait for a work station in the library, just take your own and log on to SVE.

You will also find a number of guides to help you connect your device to the SVE here.
