This week sees the countdown to the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards 2018 which take place at St Mary’s Stadium in Southampton, on Friday 5 October.
The Awards cover 12 separate categories, highlighting and celebrating the outstanding achievements of our staff.
Today we focus on the first three award categories: Early Career, Administrative and Operational Efficiency and Mentoring. Tomorrow we look at Public Engagement and Outreach, Research Impact and International Engagement.
Award category: Early Career.
An employee with up to five years’ service, who has exceeded the expectations of their position and demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the University.
Shortlisted nominees:
Dr Giulia Felappi. (Arts and Humanities).
Dr Long Tran-Thanh. (Engineering and Physical Sciences).
Dr Rachel Hale. (Environmental and Life Sciences).
Award category: Administrative and Operational Efficiency.
An employee or a team who has made exceptional contributions towards the efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability of the University, including enhancing productivity, increasing revenue, managing costs and streamlining governance.
Shortlisted nominees:
The Ergonauts Team. (Research and Innovation Services and iSolutions).
The Law School Office Team. (Student and Academic Administration).
A combined nomination for the VISAS Team (Student and Academic Administration) and the UniWorkforce Team (Human Resources).
Award category: Mentoring.
An employee or a team who serves as a role model and mentor to their colleagues, helping them to improve their skills, adopt new positions and responsibilities, or learn new processes so that they can achieve success in their career.

Sam Harris. (iSolutions).
Dr Suzanne Reimer. (Environmental and Life Sciences).
The winners will be announced live on Twitter from 19:00 on Friday 5 October and full details will be available via SUSSED on Monday 8 October.
