Celebrating Together: Christmas Lights Switch On

This festive season, we’re holding two exciting events for the University community – our annual Christmas Lights Switch On and our Family Christmas event.

Hugely successful in previous years, the Christmas Lights Switch On has become an annual tradition, offering students the opportunity to come together and appreciate the seasonal atmosphere. This year, the free event will take place on Tuesday 20 November from 16:00 on Highfield Campus.

All students are welcome to attend, and a limited number of complimentary drinks are available by registering here.

Join us and enjoy festive music, visit the Christmas market, and get into the Christmas mood.

The schedule for the evening is as follows:

  • 16:00: Browse the Christmas market for gifts and festive foods on the Redbrick and around the crescent area
  • 16:30: Listen to Christmas carols performed by our brass band
  • 18:00: Watch the Christmas Lights Switch On – the lights will be turned on from the balcony of Building 40
  • 18:10: Enjoy live music until late in The Stag’s and The Bridge

To claim your complimentary drink, simply register for the event. On the night, make sure you bring your ticket (which you can either present on your phone, or as a printed copy). You will be able to exchange this from 16:00 at one of the drinks outlets (The Bridge, The Stag’s or one of the two outside bars).

Join the Facebook event here, and search #UoSfestive on Twitter and Instagram to keep up to date. Make sure you keep a lookout for our festive-themed Snapchat filter which will be available during the event!

Please note, due to the high number of expected guests, children are not permitted to attend this event, so we encourage students and staff with children to attend the Family Christmas event on Monday 10 December.

Don’t forget to send us your messages and photos during and following the events!
