For your own wellbeing, it’s important that you educate yourself on the signs and symptoms of serious conditions such as meningitis and septicaemia.
You also need to know what to do if you, or someone you know, is experiencing some or all of the symptoms.
Signs and symptoms
Save the below photo somewhere easy-to-access (on your phone, for example) so that you’ll be able to remind yourself of the signs and symptoms. You can also read more about them here.
What to do in case symptoms have appeared
If you or someone you know appears to be experiencing some or all of the symptoms, contact the NHS 111 helpline to speak with a fully trained adviser, who can connect you to other services as needed.
Vaccine to help prevent meningitis
New university students are advised to have a free Men ACWY vaccination (up to the age of 25) if they haven’t already had it at school. Find out more about the vaccine here.
Contact your doctor to arrange the vaccination. If you’re not currently registered with a local GP, please visit the University Health Service webpage for information on how to register with the on-campus health service.
General wellbeing
To help you enjoy your time at University to the fullest, we can support you in a variety of ways. Find out more about our range of Support and Wellbeing services here.
