University choral scholars, Cantores Michaelis, will feature in a special edition of BBC Songs of Praise on Remembrance Sunday.
The programme, airing at 1.45pm this Sunday (11 November) on BBC One, was recorded at St Michael’s Church in Southampton and marks 100 years since the end of the First World War.
Our students will sing ‘God so loved the world’ by British composer Bob Chilcott and take part in the service alongside members of The Royal British Legion and a congregation of local people.
Presenter and world famous singer Katherine Jenkins explores how Southampton’s port was the primary embarkation point for British forces leaving for the Front, with eight million individual troop movements recorded between 1914 and 1918.
Cantores Michaelis is made up of choral scholars from the University, directed by Head of Vocal Studies Keith Davis and funded by The Friends of St Michael’s. Based at the ancient Southampton church of St Michael the Archangel, they sing every Sunday and on Feast Days during the academic year.
