We’re looking forward to seeing you today (Tuesday 20 November) at the Christmas Lights Switch On event!
The complimentary drinks tickets have now sold out, however, you can still attend the event and enjoy the rest of the festivities.
Below you’ll find all of the information you need ahead of the event.
Schedule:
From 16:00 – visit the Christmas market to stock up on your Christmas presents, enjoy a selection of festive foods and soak up the atmosphere with music from the University of Southampton Brass Band and SURGE Radio.
If you pre-registered for a complimentary drink, you will be able to exchange your Eventbrite ticket for a token, and claim your glass of mulled wine or mulled cider at one of the outside bars – one on the Redbrick, one on the crescent outside of The Staff Club (Building 38), or in the entrance to the Students’ Union (Building 42). Don’t forget your University ID card too!
The Bridge and The Stag’s will also be operating as cash bars until late, whilst the Piazza and the Arlott Bar will be open until 18:00.
At 18:00 the lights will be switched on from the balcony of Building 40 by President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Christopher Snowden, and Southampton alumnus, Cameron Craig, who now plays professional American Football in the United States.
The market will remain open until 19:00, after which The Bridge and The Stag’s will have a selection of live music to keep you entertained until late.
Dress code:
As the lights will be switched on from the balcony of Building 40, we recommend you wear appropriate footwear in case of poor conditions, particularly on the grass.
Children:
This event is for staff and students of the University of Southampton. Due to the high number of expected guests, children are not permitted to attend the event.
So that everyone has a chance to enjoy the festive decorations, there will be a separate family day celebration held on Monday 10 December. You can find out more information and register for the Family Christmas event here.
Photography and video:
Please note that photographs and video footage will be captured throughout the event and may be used in University publications, on our website or on social media.
