Our successful environmental audit

In October, external auditors visited the University to assess how we are managing and limiting our impact on the environment.  The auditors looked at a range of areas to determine if we are compliant with current legislation, preventing wasted utilities and materials, increasing our recycling rates and continuously improving against our sustainability objectives.

They have confirmed we are managing our environmental performance effectively and continuing to meet the requirements of the international standard for Environmental Management – known as ISO 14001:2015 – which was first achieved by the University in 2014.

Alongside these annual external audits, the sustainability team within Estates and Facilities organises a regular programme of internal audits to ensure we are operating correctly. Thank you to every department and faculty that has participated in and supported these audits over the past year. It is this combined effort which allows us to continuously improve our environmental performance, taking it to the next level of best practice.

Colleagues applying for research grants may find that the ISO 14001:2015 certification can be noted in proposals to make them even more competitive.

You can find out more about our Environmental Management System on the Sustainability website, and you can contact the team if you have any questions at: [email protected].
