The Researching Assessment Practice (RAP) group’s work has been acknowledged nationally having received one of the highest honours possible.
The team received both a collaborative award for teaching excellence and a spotlight award for exceptional team performance, within and beyond the institution, at Advance HE’s National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) and Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) Awards Ceremony.
RAP lead Professor Carol Evans and Dr Veronica Spencer received the award on behalf of the team and the University of Southampton in Edinburgh at the awards ceremony on Friday 7 November.
The RAP strategy was commended for the wealth of evidence illustrating the outstanding impact it has had on the development of colleagues and on enhancing the student experience of teaching and learning. The empowering approach of the RAP initiative was noted and the feedback described RAP as:
“An ambitious project intended from the outset to reach across the various groups of stakeholders within the institution, putting students at the centre of the action and the impact of the initiative. That this nomination is able to draw on such a wealth of projects and results to substantiate its claims demonstrates its reach and impact.”
Professor Evans highlighted the importance of using research-informed practices to empower staff and students to work together on enhancing assessment across our University:
“Working with such talented and committed colleagues (students and staff) is an absolute pleasure. The team, who go the extra mile in all they do, are certainly worthy winners of these prestigious awards. I am absolutely delighted and thankful for all the support there has been to drive assessment forward, as one team, together.”
The group is comprised of students, academics, and professional services staff who are united in their desire to enhance assessment feedback practice across the university and are leading the University Assessment Feedback Strategy.
