Six dedicated members of staff in the School of Chemistry received Long Service Awards at a ceremony that included a 40-year honour for technician Rob Dalley.
Rob joined Chemistry’s Mechanical Workshop team in 1978, when Labour’s James Callaghan was serving as Prime Minister and American musical Grease was top at the Box Office.
The technician was congratulated by Head of Chemistry Gill Reid at last week’s ceremony, alongside fellow team member Alan Glass who has spent 30 years within the School.
Professor John Langley and Julie Herniman from the mass spectrometry research facility were also presented 30-year and 20-year prizes respectively, while Professor Simon Coles and Dr Mark Light from the X-ray crystallography research facility celebrated 20 years within Chemistry.
Professor Gill Reid said:
“Southampton is one of the best places in the UK for Chemistry teaching and research, and this due in no small part to the excellence and dedication of our staff. I’d like to offer my deep thanks to these six colleagues on their outstanding service and look forward to celebrating more of the milestones within our teams in the near future.”
