How will we choose an interim Vice-Chancellor?

Dear colleagues

In my last communication to you, I confirmed that Sir Christopher will be retiring on 8 March 2019. There is likely to be a period between then and the start of a newly appointed Vice-Chancellor, in which case we will appoint an interim Vice-Chancellor, not least as we are required to have an identified Accountable Officer. If that becomes a necessity our ordinances are clear, “One of the Vice-Presidents shall act for the Vice-Chancellor during his or her absence or during a vacancy in that office”.

The Selection Committee met on 11 December and agreed a process for selecting the interim Vice-Chancellor that captured input from across the Committee.  Once a decision is made an announcement to the University is planned for early February 2019.  The end date of the interim appointment will be agreed once the start date for the next President & Vice-Chancellor is confirmed.

As well as the information that we have made publicly available on our website, you will find our staff-specific communications and documents published on a dedicated intranet site here. This includes an FAQ section which we will add to during the selection process. You may leave comments on the site or use [email protected] to ask questions or share your thoughts.

Many thanks and best wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
