All staff are invited to apply for a place on the REF Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, which is responsible for preparing and implementing the Code of Practice for the University’s submission to the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021.
The University is committed to promoting equality and diversity. The REF EDI Committee will play a vital role in ensuring the fair and transparent identification of staff eligible for submission as independent researchers, as well as the selection of outputs.
Applications are invited for up to four members of staff who can demonstrate their interest and experience in equality, diversity and inclusion and have a good understanding of REF processes. Successful applicants will join Jane Falkingham (Dean of Social Sciences and Committee Chair), Associate Deans Research, representatives from Professional Services and the University and College Union (UCU).
As a member of the committee, you would have the opportunity to:
- Be involved in the preparation, implementation and communication of the Code of Practice for the REF 2021 submission and Equality Impact Assessments.
- Ensure that REF processes are applied fairly, and without discrimination, across the University.
- Champion EDI across the University in relation to REF policies and processes, providing advice and guidance around key EDI initiatives across all areas of the REF submission.
- Advise on EDI training and briefings for all staff involved in determining the research independence of staff and the selection of outputs for inclusion in REF 2021, ensuring that all relevant staff are aware of their obligations under the code.
- Connect with existing equality and diversity networks within the University to help strengthen the Code of Practice and Equality Impact Assessments.
You can access the application form here. There are also committee terms of reference and a draft REF 2021 Guidance on Codes of Practice available to view. Please use your University credentials to log in to the SharePoint site.
Selection will be based on a written application and, if necessary, an interview. The selection panel comprises Professor Jane Falkingham (Chair), Jacqui Glynn (HR Business Partner) and Peter Staniczenko (Head of Research Performance, Research & Innovation Services).
The University is committed to ensuring the committee is inclusive, diverse and representative of the research community. If you have any questions, please contact Peter Staniczenko: [email protected]
Completed application forms need to be emailed to: [email protected] by Monday 28 January 2019.
All applications will remain strictly confidential.
