Whether you’re in your first year with us, or you’ve been here a few years, the new Student Engagement team is here to support you.
The team use a variety of methods to help identify any students who may need a little extra support. The Student Engagement Early Warning System (SEWS) is one way that concerns may be flagged up to the team if undergraduate students aren’t engaging with the usual University systems. They will also be working collaboratively with academic and support staff to offer proactive support.
SEWS will be implemented this month (January 2019) and if you hear from the team during the year, don’t worry, they just want to make sure you’re ok and see if there’s anything you need from the University.
Remember that you don’t have to wait to hear from them, and if you think you could do with some extra support, just get in touch via email: [email protected]
Professor Alex Neill, Vice-President (Education) said:
“The University is dedicated to helping all students to achieve their potential, and the Student Early Warning System allows us to reach out proactively to students who might need some extra support.”
The Students’ Union Vice-President for Welfare, Isabella Camilleri, said:
“This initiative will enable students to hear from a friendly face that someone is looking out for them, and to learn about support services and how to access them before reaching crisis – an effective proactive way to help the wellbeing of our student community. I’m very happy to support this project and to continue to work with the University to ensure that student wellbeing is considered at the forefront of our activities.”
