Leading employers continue to place high value on Southampton graduates

Graduates from our University continue to be amongst the most highly sought after by the UK’s top employers.

According to the annual ‘Graduate Market in 2019’ report, prepared by High Fliers Research, Southampton places 19th for attracting the largest number of leading graduate recruiters to campus fairs, recruitment presentations or other local university promotions.

Our graduates have gone on to employment with a range of Top 100 Graduate Employers including Apple, Cancer Research UK, Jaguar Land Rover, Newton Europe and PwC. These employers have engaged in a variety of ways with our Careers and Employability Service during the year.

The Service has engaged with 39 companies in the top 100 employers through a range of events and fairs over the last year. Over 5,800 students and recent graduates attended our two Careers Fairs last October. Students are invited to meet representatives from the top 100 employers including, Aldi, EY, KPMG, the NHS and Teach First, as well as a wide range of other graduate recruiters,  at the Spring Fair on the 5 March.

Ann Cooper, Head of Placements and Work Experience in the Careers and Employability Service said:

We aim to connect our students and graduates with the top UK and global employers, so we’re delighted that we’re in the top 20 universities for attracting leading graduate recruiters. These organisations offer brilliant opportunities, and alongside our close collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the Public and Third Sectors, there’s a terrific variety of career pathways available at the University of Southampton. It’s also encouraging to see that half of the top employers are trying to meet social mobility targets and this is very welcome as we will soon be launching our Advance Programme, further supporting students from groups under-represented in Higher Education.
