Calling our community of poets – send us your poems

It’s World Poetry Day on Thursday 21 March, and we’re seizing the opportunity to capture some of the incredibly talented individuals we have right here in Southampton.

Do you have a penchant for poetry? Share your own poems with us at [email protected] by midday on Wednesday 20 March and we’ll pick a few of our favourites to share on SUSSED next week! (Don’t forget to include your name and job role or programme of study so we can credit you).

One example of a fantastic local poet is our own Jo Fisher, Corporate Writer and Editor and valued alumna.

Jo studied BA English (2012) and MA English Literary Studies (2013) here at Southampton, and now participates in poetry slam events with her witty and original poetry. As part of this, she has earned the opportunity to perform and compete at the Royal Albert Hall for the Hammer & Tongue National Poetry Slam Final this year. She has also performed her poetry on BBC Radio Solent and at various local open mic and poetry events.

We thought it would be fitting to share a poem that Jo penned last World Poetry Day:

Instapoet

Poetry is personal
and doesn’t always rhyme.
Sometimes you just need to start
an entirely new line.
In fact, anything’s poetic
if you hit Enter
all
the
time.

Jo Fisher
