We celebrated our inaugural India Day last week with over 300 attendees across a range of events.
Throughout the day we listened to inspiring talks from several high-impact speakers, enjoyed traditional artwork, networked, and danced the night away at the Turner Sims Concert Hall.
Thank you to everyone who came along and made the day and the evening such a huge success.
We caught up with Professor Jane Falkingham, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, to talk about the impact that the new India Centre will have on the staff and student experience (due to the busy nature of the event, please enable subtitles to aid with viewing the video):

Professor Mark Spearing, President and Vice-Chancellor (Interim) commented:
“The success of the University of Southampton India Day represents a key development in our long-established and valued UK-Indian relationships, encouraging and pioneering greater awareness of potential opportunities and partnerships that bring Southampton and India closer together.
“As a nation, India is a highly-valued strategic partner, where we have engaged actively in staff/student exchange programmes, research mobility, scholarships and collaborative multidisciplinary activities with top Indian universities and research institutions.
“The achievements of this inaugural India Day included the unveiling of the new virtual India Centre, an exhibition of Indian art and the impressive Sound and Colours of India dance and music event in the evening. It was a truly memorable day and made so by all the efforts of our staff, students, visitors and invited guests.”
It was great to see so many of our staff and students there – here are a few of our favourite moments from the day:
