This week (1–7 April 2019) is Type 2 diabetes prevention week and our University’s Health, Safety and Risk Directorate are raising awareness of the condition.
Type 2 diabetes is a serious condition where your blood glucose level is too high. Lifestyle choices can affect your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes but by making small changes like eating healthily, getting active and managing your weight, you can reduce the risk considerably.
If you are concerned that you may be at risk then you can visit this website to get an estimate of your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
- If you think you may be at risk, speak to your GP practice
- Take up the offer of a free NHS Health Check which will assess your risk of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and other conditions such as high blood pressure (for people aged 40-74)
- If you are invited to, join the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme (NHS DPP). Find out more about the NHS DPP here or ask a member of your GP practice team.
During the week the Terrace Restaurant will be specialising in serving food which is suitable for those who are diabetic.
