Graduation myth buster

We’ve compiled a list of FAQs to help demystify the process of booking graduation tickets.

With applications closing on Tuesday 9 April, if you have not booked already you need to be quick! If you think you should have been invited but have not received an email invitation, contact the Graduation team with your name, student ID number and your programme of study to [email protected].

Q) Should I wait until I know my results to book tickets for Graduation?

A) No! Applications for Graduation tickets close on Tuesday 9 April, and you need to have reserved your place and any guest(s)’ tickets by then. Don’t wait to receive your results.

If you try to book after the Tuesday 9 April application date there may not be space left in your ceremony, and we will have to find you a place in an alternative. After the Tuesday 9 April deadline, guest tickets will also be charged at £10 each, subject to availability.

Q) What happens if I apply late?

A) Applications will close on Tuesday 9 April. We will reopen applications on Tuesday 7 May for late applications and extra tickets, although this is not guaranteed for every ceremony.

Q) Will extra tickets be available?

If extra tickets are available, we will email you and reopen the application on 7 May. There may also be a chance to buy some on the day, more information will be released at the time.

Q) If I apply for tickets to attend graduation, but do not receive my results by the cut-off date of Thursday 27 June, will this stop me from attending a future graduation ceremony?

A) No! Even if you’ve applied for tickets for this year’s Summer Graduation and it turns out you have not received your results in time to attend, you will automatically be invited to take part in the next eligible ceremony.

Q) I do not want to attend this summer’s Graduation. What should I do?

A) Please log on to the application system. You can choose to either defer (if you would like to attend a future graduation ceremony) or graduate in-absentia (if you do not want to attend the graduation ceremony at all). If you do not choose one of these options, it may mean a small delay in receiving your certificate. There’s no pressure – whether you’d like to attend graduation or not, just let us know and we can accommodate to suit your preference!

Q) Can I wear my own gown from somewhere other than Wippell Gown Hire?

A) We advise all graduands hire gowns, hats, and hood from Wippell Gown Hire. The University of Southampton has specific styles and colours for your award, and we have worked alongside Wippell to make sure they have gowns to the University’s specification.

Q) Where can I park during graduation?

A) We will be emailing parking information for your ceremony soon.
