Out and about with the VC: photos from Student Services

This March, our President and Vice-Chancellor (Interim) Professor Mark Spearing, toured Student Services to meet with colleagues and find out more about the key work they do for our University community.

Commenting on his visit, Mark said:

“I am so impressed by the incredible energy, passion and commitment of our colleagues in Student Services. Thank you again for all you do for our students and their experience here at Southampton.”

We’ve included four things Mark found out during his tour, below:

  • Around 3,000 students each year take up the opportunity to attend a careers drop-in session for advice from our team of careers and employability advisors.
  • The Student Services Centre responds to over 87,000 enquiries from our students each year, including via the online chat service which was launched in 2018.
  • 1,895 students attended an Enabling Services drop-in session in 2017-18. As well as drop-ins, the team also offers a live chat service, mindfulness sessions and more.
  • Our Early Years Centre is a truly international community in itself – the collective pre-school student population speak 27 different languages.
