Professor Anna Barney appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education)

The University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Anna Barney to the role of Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education).

Anna is Deputy Head of School (Education) in Engineering and was previously an Associate Dean (Education). She has a substantial track record in running successful projects in education quality monitoring and enhancement, in particular in relation to the transition to higher education.

A member of the Signal Processing and Control Research Group in the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, she has research interests in the acoustics of speech production, and in the analysis of speech and lung sounds to detect pathological conditions.

As Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education), Anna will work closely with Professor Alex Neill, the University’s Vice-President (Education) to further develop and deliver the University’s education strategy, initially with a particular focus on embedding processes to enhance the quality of our programmes.

Congratulating Anna on her appointment, Professor Neill said:

“I am delighted that Anna has taken up this role, which will be vital to maintaining and improving our already-high educational standards. Her knowledge and experience will serve us well as we continue to develop our programmes and the systems and processes that underpin them in an increasingly highly-regulated environment.”

In accepting the role, Anna said:

“I look forward to working on our existing high-quality education provision to help enhance our reputation for innovative and challenging programmes still further.”
