Do you teach international students? We need your help!

Researchers at ACIS (Academic Centre for International Students) are conducting research on pre-sessional students’ transition into their academic degree subject and would like to hear your views.

The project will focus on oral skills development in pre-sessional EAP (English for Academic Purposes) classes and the transition for students to their chosen academic disciplines.

We invite you to take part if you teach international students, and your teaching requires students to participate in any kind of speaking activity (e.g. presentations, informal discussions). Your current students do not need to have taken a pre-sessional course as the aim of the research is to understand your expectations in terms of students’ oral skills more generally.

There are two opportunities to take part: an online survey (15mins) and interview (around 30mins). You can access the online survey and the participant information sheet and consent form here. The survey will be open until 17 May 2019.

We are looking for teaching staff who are available for interviews, which will be conducted in May or early June.

Former pre-sessional students and pre-sessional tutors are also taking part in this project. We hope that the findings will help to improve pre-sessional courses and the student experience.

For further information, or to arrange an interview, please contact the lead researcher, Dr Jill Doubleday on: [email protected]
