Do you cycle to and from campus? Top tips to keep your bike safe

Do you cycle to and from our various campuses or across the city? Our Security Team has put together some handy tips to help you to keep your bike safe.

  •  Use a decent bike lock:
A robust ‘D Lock’ (see photo below) is proven to be far better than any cable lock. Most cable locks can be cut through in a matter of seconds. D-Locks are available at a discounted price of £20 at the Unilink shop in Building 57, Highfield Campus and if you part exchange your old cable lock, the price drops to £15!
  • Use the secure bike shelters on campus:
These are free to use to students in halls of residence or for students/staff with bus passes or parking permits. Please make sure your bike is secured with an adequate lock within the shelters (and don’t let anyone tail gate you!). You can get your ID card activated for the shelters at the Unilink shop.
  • Get your bike registered:
If you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of having your bike stolen, there is a much greater chance of having it returned to you if it is security registered. The University’s Security Team offers a free nationally recognised bike register service. Come and see the team in Building 32, Highfield Campus (North end of the ground floor) or at any of the bike road shows held on the Redbrick.

If you see anybody acting suspiciously around any of the bike racks, please call Security: +44(0) 23 8059 3311
