Centre for Cancer Immunology building wins ‘Project of the Year’ award

Our University’s Centre for Cancer Immunology has won the prestigious ‘Project of the Year’ honour at the Health Estates and Facilities Management Association’s (HEFMA) 2019 awards ceremony.

HEFMA annually recognises estates and facilities professionals operating within the NHS for their achievements across a number of categories.

The Centre – which opened last year after the successful completion of a £25m fundraising campaign by the University – was realised as a major, four-storey research building on the Southampton General Hospital site.

Designed and built by Kier Group, the venture was judged by HEFMA to be a fantastic example of effective collaborative working and a national leader in delivering capital projects.

On winning the prize, Kevin Monaghan, Executive Director of Estates and Facilities, said:

“I am delighted that this project has been the winner of this prestigious award, and it is a credit to the project team.

“This has been a truly collaborative effort between the University Hospital Trust, the Faculty of Medicine, and the Programme Management Unit of Estates and Facilities – led by Karen Baroni, and supported by Malcolm Wright and many others.

“A huge amount of hard and unseen work goes into such a project, and it is wonderful when the effort is recognised.”
