The University’s Code of Practice for the selection of staff for the next research assessment exercise, REF 2021, is now available to be viewed online as a pdf, or on the Diversity website.
Approval of the University’s Code of Practice by the funding bodies is required for participation in REF 2021.
The Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021) is the UK’s system for assessing the quality of research in UK Higher Education Institutions. The results are used to provide information about the quality of a university’s research and for the allocation of research funding.
Funds distributed from the last exercise, REF 2014, total £2 billion annually of which the University receives some £45 million each year.
